THE URINARY STONES UNIT
The department houses the Renal Stone Unit to which most Urologists and consultant surgeon refer cases with Urolithasis for biochemical investigations that includes blood, 24 hrs urine and qualitative stone analysis.
Since starting work, the unit performed detailed investigations for 196 patients with urinary calculi, and the work of the unit concludes:
First:
Quantitative and Qualitative stone analysis
1. Qualitative analysis:
Includes identification of the types of urinary calculi through the following biochemical investigation:
Uric acid stone
Ca oxalate stone
Calcium phosphate stone
Magnesium ammononim phosphate stone
Mixed stone
2. Quantitative analysis:
It allows the identifications of the composition of urinary calculi including:
1. Calcium.
2. Magnesium.
3. Phosphate.
4. Oxalate.
5. Ammonium.
6. Carbonate.
7. Uric acid.
Second:
Serum investigations, includes :
1. Serum calcium.
2. Serum phosphate.
3. Serum uric acid.
4. Serum creatinine.
5. serum megnesum.
Third:
Urine analysis, includes:
1. Urine calcium.
2. Urine phosphate.
3. Urine uric acid.
4. Urine creatinine.
5.Urine megnesum
